My name is Haline Balfour.
I am a translator.
I translate Spanish and French into English and English and French into Spanish.

There was a time when I thought that all I needed to
become a translator was a degree.
It took me 10 years to realize that the mere knowledge of
languages does not make a good translator.
Unless you want to specialize, you must acquire some
knowledge about almost every subject under the sun.

In 1967 I started to work as conference translator with
international organizations, especially with the OAS and the UN
in conferences all over Latin America and the Caribbean.

In 1991 I was offered the position of translator
at the Ministry of Justice of Argentina
and continue to work here, although I still occasionally work in conferences.

My curriculum includes conferences, seminars and international meetings on subjects ranging from politics and economy to meat and poultry.
Through my work at the Ministry of Justice
I have become specialized in legal translations.

Most of my present work is highly confidential so that I cannot print an example.

However, some time ago I translated into Spanish a
very interesting article on extradition and I will add it
to this page, as it might be of interest to a colleague or a potential client.
